C&B announced as no.1 most popular in Bournemouth!

May 9th, 2022|

Message from the founders

Dear C&B community,

Deliveroo this week announced the most ordered dishes in Bournemouth on their platform, and C&B’s Southern Fried Chicken Wrap came out on top, beating Wagamama’s Chicken Katsu Curry into 2nd place, Five Guys’ Bacon Cheeseburger into 3rd place, Roosters Piri Piri’s Chicken Wrap into 4th place, and Taco Bell’s Quesadilla into 5th place.

It goes without saying that great publicity like this is owed to the many C&B fans across the area who order from us so regularly. The support you continue to show us is incredible, especially over the last few years of the pandemic, where at times we wondered what the future would hold.

Also, we’ve grown to learn that we’re not just in the business of Chicken. More importantly, we’re in the business of people. Every member of our Team (over 60 of them in total) work hard day in day out to passionately represent the brand. We’re committed to making C&B a great place to work and progress your career in hospitality.

We’re a Bournemouth-born business, and these crazy stats, mixing it with brands that we’ve always looked up to, proves to us that we’ve come a long way since we opened our first little shack in Boscombe all those years ago!

Of course, there’s a long way to go…

Cheers all.

We caught up with boxing champ Chris Billam-Smith over a ‘knockout’ lunch at C&B!

May 5th, 2022|

We were delighted to welcome Chris Billam-Smith to Chicken & Blues in Bournemouth this week for a ‘knockout’ lunch following his recent stellar performance against Tommy McCarthy. Chris beat Tommy for the second time, with a clinical knockout, to retain his Commonwealth and European belts. Thanks to Chris, Bournemouth is now officially on the professional boxing map.

C&B is always super keen to feature and support home grown talent!

Here’s our 10 questions with the champ…

Chris, thanks for sitting down with us for a chat after your lunch! We have prepared 10 questions for you, to give C&B fans some insights into your life as a boxer… So…Firstly, how did you originally get into boxing?

I met my mate Dean Perkins at college and started training with him. I went and watched him fight and we were all chanting his name as he made his ring walk and I just stopped and thought that must be an amazing feeling having your name chanted by all your friends and family. So I decided that I wanted to get in the ring and have a fight.

You’re nicknamed ‘The Gentlemen’, where does this come from?

Shane (Mcguigan) my coach came up with it. I think I just said please and thank you more often than the other lads as I was very grateful for the opportunity they had given me.

You’re now part of Shane McGuigan’s stable of fighters, based in London. How did this come about?

I got offered to spar George Groves and I went and sparred and did well. Then they kept asking me to come back and spar George and David Haye. Then when I decided to turn pro I asked Shane and thankfully he said yes

Give us an insight into what a day of training entails for you?

We do punching 4-5 days per week, then the 2nd session of the day will be a run, strength + conditioning or circuit. Thankfully Shane is new school in the sense that we don’t have to get up stupidly early!

Who is your biggest sporting inspiration?

George (Groves) was huge for me in boxing. I loved watching him and now to have met him and become mates is awesome. I admire LeBron James and the way he continues to perform at top level consistently due to the way he looks after himself.

What makes a great fighter?

The biggest thing is the mindset. I’ve seen fighters with 85/90% of the attributes and they couldn’t make it. The mind is the most powerful tool in every single thing we do in life.

On top of that, you have to tick all the boxes and some are out of your control like having a good chin.

If you could have one dream fight with anyone, who would it be?

To fight for a world title at Dean Court. That for me is the ultimate dream. I love Bournemouth as a town and I love the football club. It’d be an honour.

What’s next for Chris Billam-Smith?

Fatherhood. Baby Billam-Smith is imminent so that is where my focus lies currently. My team are great and are working behind the scenes to sort my next fight.

What do you want to be remembered for at the end of your career?

Being an exciting talented world champion who people enjoyed watching.

Lastly, and most importantly of course, what do you enjoy eating and drinking when you visit C&B?

Not sure if you’ve got enough space for this in the article! Double Chicken, Chipotle Original Wrap, BBQ Wings, Waffle Fries (to dip in BBQ Wings sauce) and Mac and Cheese bites. All washed down with a Bundaberg Ginger Beer.. All of this is out of camp of course! In camp, some Chicken and Sweet Potato Mash or the amazing Chicken Caesar Salad!

Well… that about wraps things up this time! Many thanks to Chris for taking the time out to speak to us ahead of what promises to be an exciting year, both in and out of the ring!

Chicken & Blues nominates MYTIME Young Carers as Charity of 2022

March 30th, 2022|

C&B will be contributing funds to enable a minimum of 45 children to be taken on a ‘memory making day’.

C&B is delighted to announce that MYTIME Young Carers, a local charity with a mission to level the playing field for young carers, will be its nominated charity partner for 2022. A number of fund-raising activities will take place throughout the year, before the Chicken & Blues Neighbourhood Fund makes a donation to MYTIME Young Carers in December.

MYTIME offers many projects and activities to young carers to provide them with the support, friendship and opportunities that every child deserves. There are an estimated 700,000 young carers in the UK. You’re a young carer if you’re under 18 and help to look after a family member with a disability, illness, mental health condition or drug or alcohol dependency.

MYTIME helps young carers in several ways, for example, by providing:

• Opportunities to meet with other young carers on Making Memories days out

• Once in a lifetime stays at MYTIME’s amazing R & R Retreat Centre on the Jurassic Coast

• Chances to connect with other young carers through an online youth group

• Support to schools, so that school staff can recognise and meet young carers’ needs

• An Employability Programme to help young adult carers find work, training or further education

Chicken & Blues is taking on the challenge of raising enough funds to send a minimum of 45+ young carers on a Making Memories day out, as well as C&B Team Members being given paid time off from C&B in order to volunteer for various MYTIME projects throughout the year.

Joshua Simons, C&B: “Since opening our first C&B restaurant in Boscombe nearly 10 years ago, it has been one of our core values to support the local community whenever possible. During the pandemic, we decided to set up the Chicken & Blues Neighbourhood Fund as a vehicle for this – and with the generous donations from our business partners and Patrons across Bournemouth and Poole, we were able to contribute meaningfully to front-line workers and those in need. This year, we thought it best to partner with one nominated charity on some focused fund-raising. Having met with Krista and Penny at MYTIME, and discussed various ideas with our Teams, we are motivated to raise as much money as we can for the fund throughout 2022”.

Krista Sharp, MYTIME Young Carers: “We’re thrilled to have been chosen as this year’s Chicken & Blues charity partner. As a charity, we receive no government funding at all, so we rely on our local community to get behind us. C&B have made some incredible commitments to support the charity already, and the partnership is sure to help raise awareness of the important work we do at MYTIME, as well as much-needed funds. We’re really excited to see what the year ahead has in store.”

C&B extends partnership with The Tattooed Golf Coach

March 2nd, 2022|

Chicken & Blues is excited to announce it has extended its partnership with Harry Shaw, also known as ‘The Tattooed Golf Coach’, for the 2022 Golf season.

Harry is not your average golf coach, with a distinctive look that bucks tradition. A former professional Barber, he is keen to make golf inclusive and fun for people of all ages and abilities, regardless of whether they ‘fit’ the golf image.

He said: ‘Golf has helped me battle my mental health, and since creating my Tattooed Golf Coach brand, people have really started to take notice. I believe Golf can help people – i am trying to push the sport and show that it’s not just a boring old game.. It’s one of those sports that’s great for all!’

Through his brand, Harry hopes to emphasise the importance of being yourself, and to not be afraid of standing out from the crowd. The Tattooed Golf Coach has also partnered with Julia’s House, aiming to help the local community in more ways than one.

Joshua Simons, C&B: ‘We really admire what Harry has achieved in creating such a distinctive brand. The Tattooed Golf Coach endeavours to get people of all ages out into the fresh air, whilst potentially picking up a new hobby for life – and we’re on board with his mission. With this partnership, we’ll be fuelling Harry before his tournaments with Mama’s Home Cookin’, and Harry will be sporting limited edition C&B Trucker Hats at his events throughout the year’.

C&B announces selected price increases

February 22nd, 2022|

From 22nd February 2022, the price of selected items across C&B’s menu will be increasing.

Since the pandemic began in early 2020, we have made a conscious effort to keep prices down across all our menu items.

As has been well documented, prices for ingredients have recently gone up quite significantly, as have energy prices – and we have chosen to invest in our talented Team Members who have carried us through the pandemic. We must also consider that we continue to use premium products, from food and drink to equipment and packaging… and we have one eye on offsetting inflation.

With the above in mind, we have today launched a new meal bundle, called the Shack Special. For £10, Patrons can choose any chicken or plant-based wrap (Mac Daddy not included), or Mama’s Chicken Caesar Salad, or a Half Chicken, alongside any Classic side and choice of sauce. The Shack Special is available 7 days a week, from 11am-9.30pm, for dine-ins, takeaways, and collections. Please note, Shack Special purchases do not qualify for Chikcoin Rewards.

With the Shack Special, alongside our C&B App Rewards Program, where up to 10% of qualifying purchases are converted to Chikcoin in your App account, we want you to know that C&B continues to be committed to offering great value to you, our dear Patrons.

Thank you.

Chicken & Blues

Say hello to Mama’s Chicken Caesar Salad!

February 21st, 2022|

After feedback from Patrons in our annual C&B Survey in January, the team have been working on a tantalisingly tasty light bite option that’s perfect for both daytime and nighttime.

Mama’s Chicken Caesar Salad combines our signature flavours with a commitment to using the highest quality produce and processes. Patrons are invited to enjoy Glen’s homemade caesar dressing and freshly made croutons over chopped romaine and topped with parmesan flakes, with the option of adding grilled bacon. C&B’s famous roasted and BBQ’d chicken takes centre stage, with a sliced breast that is finished in our high-spec blast-chiller, which means Mama’s Chicken Caesar Salad is served fresh, and cold.
